Tartine Manufactory
Everyone who lives in San Francisco is familiar with the infamous, perpetual line that wraps around Tartine Bakery on 18th Street in the Mission District. Tartine lovers like myself can now rejoice at the opening of Tartine Manufactory in the Lower Mission. High ceilings, glass windows, loads of seating, and a bar stocked with rosé make Tartine Manufactory the perfect breakfast and lunch spot.
The sweet pastries and savory salads and sandwiches come plated on gorgeous ceramics made at Health Ceramics, which are handcrafted in the same building. Also, the food tastes even better than it looks.
Perhaps my favorite things about this Tartine is that unlike the Tartine on 18th, where the bread comes out at 4:30pm, the loaves at the Manufactory are fresh out of the oven and ready to eat as soon as the doors open. There is no better indulgence than a loaf of Tartine bread. I recommend skipping the bread knife and breaking open the hard crust with your hands to reach the porous and pillowy insides. The loaves are huge, but you will surprise yourself by how quickly it disappears.
