Mensho Ramen
There are few places that can transport the taste of Tokyo’s ramen to San Francisco, but Mensho Tokyo SF is one of those said places. Located in SF’s Tenderloin neighborhood, people will line up for hours to snag a stool at this 24-seat establishment. Mensho Tokyo is one of the most renowned ramen bars in Japan, and they have decided to make this cozy and seedy spot their first home outside of Japan.
Mensho is known for their tonkotsu, which is a rich, porky soup. The steam billowing from the opaque broth covers the chewy noodles, perfectly soft boiled egg, and other toppings.
If you don’t eat ramen, never fear. Mensho has the best vegan ramen you will find anywhere in SF. The broth is thick and nutty. If you aren’t vegan though, do not pass on the soft boiled egg–the center is perfectly creamy.
